Hardback book printing offers premium quality and durability. Ideal for limited editions, yearbooks, and coffee table books, our casebound options are available for both small and large orders, providing a stylish, lasting impression with a sophisticated, high-end look.

How are hardback books made?

Case binding involves printing and wrapping the front and back cover around a greyboard to create the ‘case’ or hardback of your book. The inner pages are bound together using a strong PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) adhesive. White endpapers and fly sheets are then inserted; the unprinted endpapers are glued to the case on the front and back, while the blank fly sheets are placed just before and after your printed pages.

  • Quantities: 1 - 1000
  • Page Count: 40 - 400
  • Paper Options: Gloss, Silk, or Uncoated for inner pages. We insert endpapers and fly sheets, so no additional artwork is required.
  • Sizes: A4, A5, and 210mm square with long or short edge case binding.
  • Cover Lamination: Choose between elegant Matt or vibrant Gloss lamination. Lamination is highly recommended for covers with heavy ink coverage to protect against marking during transit or storage.

  • Minimum spine width available is 9mm

For optimal protection, we recommend adding lamination, particularly for covers with heavy ink coverage. Lamination helps prevent ink transfer or marks caused by friction during transit or storage. How to set up design files for hardback book printing

Artwork Submission:

Submit artwork as two files:

Outside Cover Page:

  • Submit as a spread including the spine, hinge, and wrap around.
  • Download our templates for bleed, safe zone, and wrap around requirements.
  • Use our spine width calculator for the correct spine size.

Inner Pages:

Submit as individual pages in running order.

  • Example: For a booklet with 40 inner pages, supply an inner PDF of 40 pages in running order and a cover PDF as a spread including the spine and wrap around.

 

Important Requirements:

  • Inner page total must be divisible by 4.
  • Include 3mm bleed on all sides.
  • Maintain a 10mm safe zone on all sides.
  • Supply as a CMYK PDF in PDF/X1a format.
  • Outline or embed fonts.
  • Ensure 300dpi resolution.
  • Unprinted (white) endpapers and fly sheets will be inserted when we receive your artwork.
